SBCC Women Shooters

Self-Defense, Building Confidence & Coaching Women Shooters!

SBCC Women Shooters is expanding the world of self-defense and firearms to women in a safe, non-threatening way by educating, building confidence and empowering women in the St. Louis region! SBCC Women Shooters is a women’s community that welcomes women of all skill levels - brand new shooters and experienced shooters or women interested in self-defense, situational awareness and community. We are an amazing group of women of all experience levels and ages, from ages 21 to 70+.

We meet once a month for classroom time (with great information, discussions and informative speakers!), private range time (just for our group!) and a pre-class social sisters dinner at the awesome Southside Guns & Sharpshooters Range.

We have a robust online presence with our SBCC Women Shooters public Facebook page and our secret Facebook page for member-only discussions. This is a great place to interact with other ladies in a safe environment with great discussions on all things related to your journey with firearms!

We keep this website up-to-date with all event plans and changes!

What we do

Self-Defense Education

We coach and empower women in self-defense related topics to defend themselves, have situational awareness and grow their confidence as women! We have a big, comfortable classroom with great tech too!

self-defense

Firearms Training

We have use of a private range just for our group members! We coach new or experienced women shooters in the classroom and provide instruction on the range. Everyone can learn more and hone their skills! Plus, it’s fun! And we get out of the lanes and onto the bays several times a year as well, plus special opportunities to draw from the training lanes. We encourage you to shoot, but if you’re not ready, stay to watch and learn and for the fun!

“Social Sisters” Dinner

We have a great time while we build confidence through sharing our firearms experience with each other and training together! We grow as women through supportive community and fun - and the BBQ at our social sisters pre-classroom dinners is amazing too! We eat on the patio; if inclement weather, we eat in the classroom.

And see next section for event night schedule / times.

2024 SBCC-WS event topics are:

  • January 3, 2024 - Annual Pistol Basics / Beginner Handgun by Leader Sheri Bilderback and it’s an excellent topic for new members - a perfect time to bring your friends as our guest for their first SBCC-WS! Our classroom is followed by our private range time where we will have “Dot Torture” drills! Dot Torture is SO much fun! We will modify the drill and use a “low ready” position instead of drawing; learn more about the drill HERE. Targets will be provided. We will also do our annual 2024 forms - please check your emails and/or the group page. Please fill them out prior and either bring them with you on Jan. 3 or email them to Sheri (or via mail; see email for address).

  • February 7, 2024 - Outside the Home Defense, which is a preview of Leader Sheri’s much longer NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home class AND special private range time of shooting with your gloves on! Let’s get some real training for winter!

  • March 6, 2024 - Inside the Home Defense, which is a preview of Leader Sheri’s much longer NRA Personal Protection Inside the Home class. AND for our private range time, we will train with low-light shooting to mimic what you might experience in an inside the home self-defense situation.

  • April 3, 2024 - Competitive Shooting - SBCC-WS member Michele Milewski will provide an overview on competitive shooting! Michele is an NRA Certified Instructor, Certified RSO and an experienced competitive shooter in both IDPA and USPSA. Sharpshooters Range is holding IDPA matches now, and this will be a great introduction to competitive shooting for those matches as well. AND private range time will be led by Michele on competitive shooting skills - practice with a shot timer!

  • May 1, 2024 - Celebrating our 2nd Anniversary! & Drawing from a Holster / Concealment! - We will have cake and fun!! For our classroom topic, we will refresh on drawing from a holster and drawing from concealment as a defensive skill with Leader Sheri! During our private range time, you will have the option of working from a “low ready” position or drawing from your holster (USPSA paper targets provided). Or if you prefer, have fun and test your accuracy skills with “Dot Torture” again! It’s SO fun! Dot torture targets also will be provided. Leader Sheri will be on the range for instruction and coaching. We will allocate extra time for our range time this month, so come prepared to shoot, ladies!! If you are shy about shooting, this will be the perfect time, and we will help you! ….

Here is what you will need for drawing from your holster (safety reasons on the line)…

    1) strong side holster (no cross body, purse or flashbang holsters)

    2) strong side holster can be inside or outside the waistband

    3) the holster must cover the trigger guard and be fitted / hard sided (kydex or leather, but not a material that bends like nylon - safety reasons)

  • June 5, 2024 - Special Guest Speaker Larry Bruns, FBI Firearms Instructor / Special Agent (ret.) and Training Advisor for Sharpshooters Range! Topic is Cover and Concealment, with the opportunity for an extended range time with more instruction on shooting from behind cover, target decisions or to watch and learn, by Larry Bruns! Bring your holster if you have one. We may allocate extra time for our range time this month, so come prepared to shoot, ladies!! If you don’t want to get inside the bay to practice shooting from cover but still want to shoot, Leader Sheri will be there to help you as always.

  • July 10, 2024 - NOTE: Date is the SECOND WEDNESDAY of the month due to the 4th of July holiday - so ONE WEEK later than normal! Guest Speaker Verna Cooper from U.S. LawShield with news hot off the press! AND for our private range time, we will have instruction on the range and train with magazine reloads and support-hand and one-handed shooting as a defensive and competitive shooting skill with Leader Sheri - plus a free “Dot Torture” target!

  • August 7, 2024 - Situational Awareness by Leader Sheri, one of her favorite topics and SO important for self-defense and avoiding self-defense situations! AND for our private range time, we will have “show and tell!” - bring your pistols and rifles to “show and tell” and share the love on the range! Let’s learn together about different firearms and what we each love about our own firearms. Understanding that part of finding the right firearms for ourselves is learning and trying different ones to find the right “fit” for you. Those who are up for it may let others shoot their pistols or rifles.

  • September 4, 2024 - Moving & Shooting is our classroom topic and for hands-on training during our private range time with Leader Sheri! We will allocate extra time for our range time this month, so come prepared to shoot, ladies!! If you have a holster please bring it - see holster requirements from May 1 above. We have several skills that we will learn including moving off the “x” to engage the target with two shots (with opportunity to draw or from low-ready and also a small target transition) moving off a target and taking two shots from a low ready or a draw AND then moving to the next target to engage the second target with two shots. Targets will be provided! We will use a small paper target transition target for within the lane drill and then official USPSA cardboard targets for our inside-the-bay moving and shooting drills. (You also have the opportunity to watch and/or shoot like normal in a lane if you are not doing these training drills.)

  • October 2, 2024 - Multiple Attackers / Target Transitions by Leader Sheri. AND during private range time, we will train with target transitions - targets provided! We will be able to go INSIDE the bays again for this training! So bring your holsters if you have them - see May 1 holster requirements above. We will allocate extra time for our range time this month, so come prepared to shoot and have some fun on the range, ladies!! Please bring your holsters if you have them - see holster requirements from May 1 above.(You also have the opportunity to watch and/or shoot like normal in a lane if you are not doing these training drills.)

  • December 4, 2024 - Annual Christmas / Holiday Party to benefit Toys for Tots including a raffle with great prizes! AND our private range time with our friendly shooting competition.

Covid Rules, Special Range Rules & Location

Covid Rules…

If you are feeling under the weather for any reason, you *must* stay home. If a member arrives showing any symptoms of being sick, we will ask them to go home. We recognize that allergies are a big part of some people’s lives, and this can mimic colds! Use good judgment. If you have to sneeze or cough, even if wearing a mask, please do that into your elbow.

Please note current covid requirements by St. Louis County AND the Centers for Disease Control prior to attending. We must follow all local government requirements. We will be socially distanced. In addition, some ladies will likely be vaccinated and some ladies will likely not be, and we want to remain respectful of each other, including of our RSOs on the shooting line. Hand sanitizer is still golden. (We will have some available, and you're also welcome to bring your own.)

Special Range Rules…

Reminder to pre-load your mags, as mags may only be loaded within a lane on the range. Bring your own ammo if you can (if you’re shooting your own gun) due to possible shortages. No steel-cased ammo. Read more range rules for our host range HERE.

Our Event Location at Southside Guns & Sharpshooters Range…
